Steps

  1. 1Two functions multiplied, so use the product rule: (uv)' = u'v + uv'.
  2. 2Let u = x^3, so u' = 3x^2.
  3. 3Let v = e^(2x). By the chain rule v' = 2 e^(2x).
  4. 4Apply the rule: f'(x) = 3x^2 e^(2x) + x^3 (2 e^(2x)).
  5. 5Factor out the common x^2 e^(2x): f'(x) = x^2 e^(2x) (3 + 2x).

The chain rule inside the product rule is where marks go missing. The derivative of e^(2x) is 2e^(2x), not e^(2x).

  • It will not be used in a graded test or a proctored exam.
  • It will not read an integral whose limits were cut off by your selection box.
  • It will not always choose your textbook's substitution. Ask for a specific one if it matters.
  • It will not prove theorems rigorously enough for a proof-based course. It is a solver, not a referee.

Questions people ask

Does it do definite integrals with the bounds evaluated?
Yes, and it shows the antiderivative first, then the evaluation at each bound, then the subtraction.
Can it handle implicit differentiation?
Yes. It differentiates both sides with respect to x, marks every dy/dx term as it appears, and solves for dy/dx at the end.
Will it show which convergence test to use?
It names the test, checks the conditions the test requires, and then applies it. That order matters more than the conclusion.
How do I get math out of a PDF?
Snap it. Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + S and drag a box around the expression. Copy-pasting math from a PDF usually mangles the symbols.
