Feature

Solve is
the default action.

Solve is what the raccoon is named for. It takes whatever you selected or snapped, works out the answer, and shows the chain that produced it. It is the first button in the pill because it is the one you reach for most.

How it works

1

Select or snap

Highlight the problem, or drag a box around it.

2

Hit Solve

It is the leftmost action, and the one Enter picks.

3

Read result then reasoning

Answer block first in green, working underneath in yellow, question above in blue.

What it handles

Math

From arithmetic to calculus, with the algebra written out.

Science

With formulas named and units carried through.

Reading questions

With the evidence from the passage quoted back.

Code

What the snippet does, why it fails, and what to change.

Anything with an answer

A conversion, a date calculation, a definition.

Your own working

Select your attempt and ask whether it holds up, and where it breaks.

A real one, worked out

This is the shape of every answer: the result first, then the reasoning that got there.

Question

Solve: 5x - 2(x + 4) = 13

Answer

x = 7

Steps

  1. 1Distribute the -2 across the bracket: 5x - 2x - 8 = 13.
  2. 2Combine like terms: 3x - 8 = 13.
  3. 3Add 8 to both sides: 3x = 21.
  4. 4Divide by 3: x = 7.
  5. 5Check: 5(7) - 2(7 + 4) = 35 - 22 = 13. Correct.

The minus sign belongs to the 2, so it multiplies both terms in the bracket. Distributing it as +2 on the 4 is the classic slip here.

Solve first, then argue with me about the third step. That is the fun part.

What it will not do

  • It will not be used in exams or graded quizzes.
  • It will not answer what it cannot read. A bad crop gets a request for a better one.
  • It will not hide its working. Solve always shows steps.
  • It will not be right every time. That is why the reasoning is shown.

Solvecoon is a study aid, not an answer machine. Exams, graded quizzes, and proctored tests are off limits — see the acceptable use policy.

Questions people ask

Is Solve different from asking a chatbot?
In practice, yes: it already has the question in front of it, in the format the page shows it, and it answers in a structured block with the reasoning separated from the result.
Can I get just the answer?
The answer is always the first block, so you can read it and stop. The steps are underneath for when you need them.
Does Solve work on non-school questions?
Yes. Any question with an answer, from a unit conversion to what a clause commits you to.
How many Solves do I get?
Five a day free, 150 a day on Pro under fair use.
