Feature

The long read,
in the points.

A summary that names the topic is useless. A summary worth reading tells you the claim, what supports it, and what it does not cover, so you know whether to spend the twenty minutes on the full text.

How it works

1

Select the section

A few paragraphs, a chapter, a thread, a transcript.

2

Choose Summarize

You get the claim, the support, and the caveats.

3

Ask for a different shape

Shorter, as bullets, as revision notes, or focused on one question you have.

What it handles

Articles

Before you commit to reading the whole thing.

Chapters

Into revision points you can actually put on a card.

Papers

Question, method, finding, and the limitation the abstract downplays.

Threads and comments

The three positions people are actually arguing.

Transcripts

Lecture or meeting recordings, into what was decided or claimed.

Documentation

What this page tells you to do, in order.

A real one, worked out

This is the shape of every answer: the result first, then the reasoning that got there.

Question

Summarize a 2,000-word article arguing that remote work reduced junior productivity.

Answer

Claim: juniors lost informal learning, not focus time. Evidence: internal review data from one firm. Limit: one company, one year, no control group.

Steps

  1. 1Find the claim: the loss is in mentorship and overheard learning, not hours worked.
  2. 2Find the evidence: performance reviews and promotion rates at a single firm.
  3. 3Find the mechanism the author proposes: fewer unplanned interactions with senior staff.
  4. 4Find the counter-argument the article concedes: senior staff productivity rose.
  5. 5Find the limit: one company, one year, no control group, so it is suggestive, not causal.

Keeping the limitation in the summary is what stops you citing it as more than it is.

A summary without the limitation is just a rumour with a citation.

What it will not do

  • It will not summarize what you did not select. Highlight the section you mean.
  • It will not read a paywalled page you cannot see either.
  • It will not replace reading a source you intend to cite.
  • It will not invent nuance the text does not contain.

Solvecoon is a study aid, not an answer machine. Exams, graded quizzes, and proctored tests are off limits — see the acceptable use policy.

Questions people ask

How long can the selection be?
Long. Whole sections work. For an entire book chapter, summarize section by section: the results are sharper and easier to check.
Can I get bullets instead of prose?
Ask for bullets, or for revision notes, or for one sentence. The shape is up to you.
Does it keep the author's position separate from the evidence?
Yes, that separation is the point. Claim, support, and caveat are distinguished.
Is summarizing a fair use for schoolwork?
Summarizing a source you are reading is study. Submitting a summary as your own analysis is not.
